Day 757 – Australia – SA [Rest Day in Port Augusta]

06/07/22

Rest day in Port Augusta (South Australia, Australia)

Botanics gardens, kangaroos and beautiful views on the Flinders Ranges

Red Cliff

What a beautiful day for a rest-day. We headed out to the botanic gardens, north of Port Augusta. The Gardens are set in nature, with the Flinders Range as a background. Went around to see the wide variety of trees and flowers, especially the arid-land range. These plants thrive in the arid and extreme conditions and come from the most arid regions of Australia. We can learn a thing or two about how these plants survive on very little, next to water at all.

That female got a joey in her pocket

Then we took a walk on the Red Cliff trail. All the way to the train bridge over the Spencer Gulf and with stunning views on the Flinders. On the way there I had two encounters with kangaroos. I was able to get quite close, very slowly. One was a male. The other was a female, carrying a joey in her pocket. It was quite a joyous thing to see (especially after having seen so many of them by the side of the road).
