Day 707 – Australia – WA [Kalgoorlie to Feysville]

17/05/22

40km

From Kalgoorlie (Western Australia) to Feysville (Western Australia)

Australia

A beautiful and quiet day on the road – and troubles with the motorhome

Leaving Kalgoorlie and its ancient buildings

I left Kalgoorlie this morning after spending about 1hr with Carwyn, the journalist from Kalgoorlie Miner. The paper is actually a daily edition and covers 5 shires, somewhat wider than just the Kalgoorlie area. We had a chat and then went to some of Kalgoorlie iconic sights to shoot some pictures. It is nice to get some interest here. People see me on the road and have no idea what I am doing. And most importantly, if it can get the (ever struggling) fundraising to start rising again, that would be nice.

Rocks and beautiful trees by the road

The road I am running on, all the way south to Norseman, is fairly quiet. It seems there are only a few road trains every now and then – and some mining industry vehicles (which I recognise because they are numbered, high vis and with a prominent red flag attached to them). I wave at them, they wave back, that provides some entertainment along the way.

Great sights along the way

As I was about to finish the run, I got words that James was in trouble with the motorhome. It started heating up and James had to stop when it reached temperatures above 100 Celsius. That was our opportunity to test how good the road assistance service was. Well in truth it was pretty good! We got to our motel for the night and just there, the RAC car was there, ready to fix whatever was wrong. Good to know they’re on the ball – and we are back in business 🙂
