Day 588 – US – DC [Rest Day in Washington DC]

13/11/21

Rest day in Washington (DC, North America)

Fantastic welcome by Victoria & Franklin, a reception with lovely guests and an express tour of the Capitol

Washington National Cathedral

The day started by a family breakfast, with my parents and our host Victoria. It’s not often I have company for breakfast! My parents and I decided to go for a walk towards the Washington National Cathedral – the weather was bitterly cold, windy and rainy – but the walk on Klingle Valley Trail was beautiful. So was the cathedral but unfortunately it was closed, so we only admired its exterior.

With Victoria & Franklin at their home – the reception

At 1pm, Victoria and Franklin had organized a reception, what a true honour. There we met with Leigh and Letoria from Women for Women International. Also in attendance were friends of Victoria and Franklin – and what a coincidence, a few french speakers. Victoria and Letoria made a few remarks and I said a few words too. It is such a special moment when I get to realise the journey resonates with people and it makes sense with the cause I have chosen to run for. The reception was a great moment, Franklin did a great job cooking all sorts of delicious food – and there was also hot apple cider to keep us warm (like Gluhwein, only with cider!).

The Capitol building, Washington DC

After the reception was over, we went on another walk around the city, to see the Capitol. A beautiful and truly impressive monument. That was another long and cold walk through the city, which is quite stunning and a joy to walk. Then it was time to enjoy our last dinner and evening with our very gracious hosts, Franklin, Victoria and her mother Viola.

That ends a great 2-days turnover in Washington DC, such a joy to meet people along the way, get to know them, share stories…
My parents will remain in the city for a few days whilst I make my way to New York city (which I should reach in 11 days) – and we’ll meet again as I get closer to the Big Apple.
