Europe

A long day on the road, beautiful autumn light, on a quiet road going through a string of rural villages

I’m really taking a liking to these Serbian valley landscapes and the way the autumn light falls beautifully on it throughout the morning. The air is very pleasant and still quite warm, above 20 Celsius, that’s more than I could wish for.

There is a modern highway that connects all the major cities in the country, but I run on the secondary roads, which actually pass by every little village on the way. It’s beautiful, it gives me company, places to stop by for a refreshment or a snack. I get to greet people and I am surprised how much encouragement I receive from them. People use bicycles a lot in the region and they never fail to cheer me up as they pass me by.

For the last 12km of today’s run there even was a pedestrian/cycling corridor leading all the way to Paracin. This made the finish a little bit easier as today was the 2nd longest run of the journey, at above 50km. I am graduating to a new distance and it is good to feel, once again, that if I need to up the distance, I have it in me to run for longer.

Tomorrow will be an equally long distance to Svilajnac, with a twist… the weather forecast predicts rain all the way – let’s see what tomorrow morning will be like!
