Celebrating running the 20,000th kilometer of the world-run on a very hilly day!

Bright blue skies for the 20,000th kilometer of the journey

Blue skies and sunshine greeted me as I opened the door this morning, a good omen. I knew the day would be uphill, with nearly 900m+ of elevation (those relentless hills again). But I was happy to see that my legs were in good shape and adjusted to the uphills again. I left Pittsburgh via the leafy suburbs and I had an eye on the GPS device. When it was time, I took a picture to capture the 20,000th kilometer of the journey. It seems quite a lot! Yet again… I have not yet completed the 2nd continent crossing, and that’s how I prefer to measure my progress.

The quieter part of the morning, safe and green

Having run the first half of today’s distance in a very nice and leafy environment, it was a surprise to suddenly be directed to Highway 30 – which happened to be a bit busy this morning. The main issue though was the lack of a safety lane. There was a white line by the side of the road… but often with no space at all to the side of it. It quite understandably upset many motorists and I heard a lot of angry honking directed at me. There are times when there is not much choice unfortunately.

I should be back onto safer and quieter roads tomorrow. On a short run that promises to be… even hillier than today! Bring it on!
