Rest day in Tarragona (Spain, Europe)

Ancient footprints are everywhere! Touristy walk around Tarragona – World Heritage City

What a joy to have a full day to myself in one place! The last time I really enjoyed it was at San Pedro del Pinatar, some 15 days ago. My last rest-day was a forced one in Moraira, stranded by the storm, I was not able to go outside due to the foul weather.

Today I started out from the Imperial Place of Tarragona, right in the centre, and walked down the Rambla, to the seafront. Ancient monuments, sculptures, then the Roman amphitheatre and so many other sights… I give you a little sneaky peek at some of the pics I took, on a blue sky background, it was simply mesmerizing!

As we are approaching the 2,000km mark and the end of the second month of running, I reflected a bit on progress made and numbers. So far, I am sticking to my plan with 100% accuracy. I have planned all stages of the world run on an Excel document. I know I will most likely (surely!) have to deviate from it, but I needed some canvas on which to project my dream!

I now use this as a measure of my geographical progression. It serves a purpose!

I was aiming to average the Europe crossing at 40km/running day. So far my average is 39.5km/ running day. It will even out around 40 by the time I reach Istanbul. And there’s still a lot of unknown. I have taken a snapshot of the TravelMap trace (bottom of the page) to show what I have run (plain red line) and what is left to run (dotted line). Not even a third into the first continent crossing, way to go!

I am fully rested, caught up on my sleep, and looking forward to hit the road again tomorrow morning! Heading to Barcelona and then the Pyreneans. How exciting!
