Europe

Blue sky, flooded roads, a pristine natural park and the big city, Valencia

I could not help but snap shots of the view this morning as I left Favara towards Cullera. I know it is bad news for the locals and the economy, but the flooded fields in the sunrise light at dawn, with the reflection of the hills, were absolutely stunning.

I had decided to chance my way towards the coast, as I really wanted to cross the Albufera Natural Park. I had checked the status of the roads online, and despite a few “flooded area” signs towards Cullera, all other roads to Valencia were good to go.

Crossing the Park was beautiful and a change from the landscapes I have seen up till now. I was in the middle of a pine tree forest, with very little traffic and many cyclists for company. I ended up chatting with some of them, as those who saw me early that morning heading North, saw me again a few hours later as they made their way back to Valencia… and they had a few questions for me!

The arrival in Valencia was superb. I got past the city of Science and Arts, Museum of Sciences, Palace of Arts, the agora and oceanografic museum. Quaint pieces of modern architecture!

The arrival at the hotel was less impressive. The hotel I was booked in did not keep my room, despite it being paid for for 2 nights. I was delayed by 1 day (due to the storm) but did not expect to lose both nights. It took me a long while to get things sorted, and doing so after a good day of running was a bit unspirited. Anyway, this was quite an unpleasant surprise, and sorting out new logistics cost me about 1hr30. It’s all good now, all behind!
