Day 254 – EU – Slovenia [Vransko to Celje]

02nd November 2020
Run: 32km

The joy of a short all downhill run in the beautiful countryside of Slovenia

A short run today, downhill all the way (from 350m height down to 250m) – progressive but constant. It felt very easy to run, I guess this is the kind of incline where running with BoB the stroller really works in my favour. Very gentle and easy to control.

I arrived today in Celje, the 3rd biggest city of Slovenia after Ljubljana and Maribor. I notice that when I bother to put a little note about my journey on my Booking.Com reservations, it almost always results in the most awesome welcomes. I should keep on writing a note each time. Yesterday’s host welcome was brilliant and she sent me off very warmly this morning. Alexandra is my host tonight and again she went out of her way to make sure I was comfortable and I had food and drinks and that it was warm enough in the flat.

The road I’ve been running on since yesterday is a secondary country road, very quiet – and most of the time with a parallel road for cycling and walking. It is very safe and pleasant. I don’t get to interact with as many people (and pets!) as I did in Serbia and Croatia, for the good reason that houses and farms are much further away from the main road. There’s usually the distance of a field or garden between the road and the house.

Today I received a message from a Slovene journalist who wants to do an interview via video-call tonight. I’ll let you know tomorrow how it goes – but I don’t speak slovenian, so it’s gonna have to be in english or german! (I hope for english).
