A very wet and cold run with a finish in beautiful Novi Sad

Traffic was busy from the start today and once again I had to compose without the luxury of a road shoulder. It went fine for the first hour of running, which was dry, then it started raining and the grass patch on the side became muddier and muddier – eventually disappearing all together under huge puddles of mucky water!

Halfway through I passed by a church in the middle of nowhere “Hram Blage Marije” which was really beautiful. Even more so maybe because of its isolation.

As I approached Novi Sad, a police car passed me and ordered me to stop on the roadside. They checked my ID card but we could not communicate. I eventually sat inside the car and showed them my website from my mobile phone. Showing them the map of the journey etc… From this point on they called me the French Athlete and took pictures of my phone, shaking my hand and wishing me good luck. They must have thought I was some sort of celebrity!

I crossed the Danube again to enter Novi Sad, I wish I had taken more pictures but it was raining hard. There is an impressive Fortress before the bridge and a gate marking the entrance to the city. The boulevards and ancient buildings were superb, even under the rain. Novi Sad is the 2021 European Capital of Culture and is also the 2nd biggest city of Serbia. It would have deserved much more than an afternoon to discover this awesome city.

Ah and today I passed the 8,000km mark – whoop whoop!
