Tranquil run in the countryside, leaving the Danube behind temporarily

It was beautiful to leave Belgrade at sunrise, on a quiet Sunday morning, with the light reflecting hues of purple colors over the Danube river. I ran for a long while on the Nikola Tesla Boulevard, parallel to the Danube, with wide cycling lanes that made it very comfortable. I met many people out for their early Sunday morning jog, and I realised it was a long while I had not met runners!

I followed Road 100 all the way to Indija, passing by a few villages on the way. Again, I was pleased to be able to enjoy wide pedestrian and cycling lanes nearly all the way, what a luxury. It really makes the run a completely different experience, stress free, without the noise and pressure that comes with running in traffic. Since crossing into Bulgaria, I have been wearing a reflective vest on top of my attire every day – as an additional safety measure, regardless of the weather conditions.

Indija is a very pleasant town with a cosy city centre and pedestrian streets. As I arrived before lunchtime, people were mostly coming back from the main church… and most probably getting ready for the Djokovic-Nadal Roland Garros final game. Expectations were high on the Serbian national hero. What a game it was… on Nadal’s part!
