Day 95- EU – Italy [Brugnato to Marina Di Carrara]

09th March 2020
Run: 43km

Rainy, dark, cold and grey day – tranquil run from the mountain to the seaside

Back to a standard distance on a downhill run today. It was rainy the whole way, which probably made the day go faster as I was less inclined to take breaks. I spent a lot of time pondering the choices I am facing regarding my upcoming route in this Coronavirus-hit country. Things are starting to be clearer in my mind. Running always helps.

The landscape was mountainous, covered in fog and quite brown, resembling more a wet autumn day than the upcoming spring. I did not mind too much. As drenched and cold as I got, I knew the sun would be back tomorrow again and along with it, the warmer air from the seaside.

I noticed that people, in shops and restaurants, are really serious about the 1m sanitary distance. There are improvised markings on the grounds at the supermarket for queuing whilst respecting the 1m gap, tables at restaurants and cafes seem to have been spread out. I am curious what Pisa will look like when I reach it tomorrow. It certainly won’t be as busy as I would have expected it to be.
